10 April 2008 Car park right turn blocked by council
Bosses at Staffordshire county council have erected a barrier preventing drivers from turning right into and out of two car parks, it has been reported. The 24-hour precaution is as part of a ten-week trial from officials at the Central and Sainsbury's parking facilities on Union Street, according to the Burton Mail.
Such a barrier will prevent drivers from travelling through the car parks illegally and picking up a conviction which could compromise their car insurance policies.
"There has been a lot of debate, trials and consultations, but this final comprehensive ten-week test should, we hope, prove once and for all if this is the right solution," said David Wilson, deputy corporate director of Staffordshire Highways.
Last month, the Times stated that a new device will be trialled by the council which allows parents to use the internet to monitor their children as they learn to drive.
