08 April 2008 Crackdown on Sunderland speeders

Sunderland speeders told to slow down. Police officers in Sunderland are to crackdown on motorists breaking the speed limit on the city's roads, it has been reported.

According to the Sunderland Echo, 45 per cent of drivers travelling on Salters Lane break the law in such a manner, along with 34 per cent of Seaton Lane.

Those who do find themselves caught out could find that they risk picking up expensive car insurance policies in the future, as cover firms may view them as a road risk and hike prices.

Road casualty reduction officer PC Dave Nixon outlined the punishment rogue motorists can face.

He said: "If you really abuse the limit we have the option to take you to court, so I would say think carefully if you are one of those people who drive well over the limit."

Meanwhile, the Northamptonshire Evening Telegraph has reported that a new scheme - Heroes - is to monitor motorists racing through Caldecott Village, near Corby.
