07 April 2008 Petrol station introduces chip and pin

New way to pay for petrol in Doncaster. Motorists in Doncaster will soon be able to pay for their petrol at the pump using chip and pin technology, according to a local news source.

The Star has reported that the York Road branch of Morrisons is to use terminals at its filling station where drivers can use their cards to pick up fuel.

However, car insurance customers who prefer the human touch can still head into the kiosk to pay if they so desire, the news source added.

Store general manager Paul Rumboll has commented that the system will be particularly useful for those with children.

He said: "Our new pay at pump technology will speed up your stop and means you don't need to leave your car unattended."

Meanwhile, the Northampton Chronicle & Echo has reported that buying petrol in Northampton is £117 per year more expensive than picking up fuel in Kettering.
