07 April 2008 Drivers adhere to new speed limit

Drivers are obeying a speed limit change in Hampshire. New speed limit rules introduced by Hampshire County Council are being obeyed by motorists in the area, it has been reported.

According to Hampshire News, a 30 mph has replaced the 40 mph limit on Heath End Road in Baghurst.

It may be that this helps to reduce the number of accidents in the region, while that in turn could bring down the cost of car insurance if cover firms consider the area safer.

PC Mark Smith has commented that the introduction of the limit as outlined in signage has had an effect on drivers.

"We went out with a speed gun in the first few days after the signs went up and nobody was speeding, so the signs do have an effect," said the official.

This comes as London Mayor Ken Livingstone has announced that he is to attempt to impose a 20 mph limit on roads in the city.
