04 April 2008 Occupational drivers 'more likely to drive close'

Occupational drivers tailgate, says study. Motorists who drive for a living are more likely to tailgate by travelling too close to other people on the road, it has been claimed.

According to research from breakdown firm Green Flag in association with road safety charity Brake, six out of ten people who take to the road as part of their job leave only a small gap between vehicles.

Those who do so may find that they risk invalidating their car insurance policies, as it could be that they are more likely to be involved in an accident.

According to Brake, such behaviour should result in a £1,000 fine and six-point licence penalty for motorists.

This comes as the Daily Mail has reported on an error made by transport officials which has inconvenienced drivers.

Workers kept 50 mph signs up on the A2 near London despite the fact that road works were completed last year.
