04 April 2008 Parking tickets 'can be appealed over phone'

Drivers can appeal parking tickets on the phone. Motorists looking to contest a parking ticket can now do so over the phone, it has been reported.

The Manchester Evening News has reported that rules brought in this week mean that aggrieved drivers can simply pick up the phone if they would like to contest.

Indeed, it may be that in having such decisions overturned, drivers have more money to spare when it comes to paying road tax and car insurance bills.

According to chief adjudicator of the Traffic Penalty Tribunal Caroline Sheppard, a number of people are not aware that tickets can be appealed.

"It is important that people know that they have the right to appeal to an independent adjudicator if they want to continue to challenge a penalty after the council has rejected their case and says they should pay," she said.

Regulations introduced this week mean that rogue parkers can now pick up a £70 fine for parking in a bay meant for the disabled.
