04 April 2008 Hertfordshire motorists caught out with ANPR
Motorists in Hertfordshire were caught breaking the law by officials in the region using automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology, a local news source has reported.According to the Watford Observer, 82 people have been arrested in Hertsmere using the system on the M25, A1 and A41 over the last two months.
It may be that those caught out have trouble picking up a cheap car insurance policy in the future as cover firms could perceive them to be a potential road risk.
The rogue drivers netted by officials represent "very pleasing results" to Sergeant Kio Bozorgi, the news source added.
"ANPR is a key crime reduction and investigative tool for the police, targeting criminals who use vehicles and denying them the ability to move freely around the county to commit crimes," he said.
This comes as This is Gloucestershire has reported that Operation Utah Regional yesterday employed ANPR in order to make 12 arrests in the region.
