02 April 2008 Bolton drivers 'could lose roads priority'
Officials in Bolton could choose to strip motorists of priority at a busy junction in the town, according to a local news source.Bolton News has reported that giving pedestrians priority at the junction of Knowsley Street and Deansgate is one of several options being considered by local councillors.
It may be that this results in cheaper car insurance policies in the area, as fewer accidents could see cover firms cut prices.
Local councillor Nick Peel said that officials are exploring a number of different possibilities in order to make the roads safer.
"We are conscious that we do not want to make any knee-jerk reactions, but are committed to making our roads safer," remarked Mr Peel.
Meanwhile, the same news source has reported that Ray Sammons from the Bolton Advanced Motorists group has criticised town officials in the region for not replacing bulbs used to illuminate street signs.
