27 March 2008 Motorists caught speeding at crash site

Police have cracked down on speeders. A number of motorists were found speeding at a site where an elderly cyclist was recently killed, it has been reported.

Buck Free Press has stated that more than 30 drivers were pulled over by police as part of a road safety initiative at Brimmers Hill in Widmer End yesterday morning.

Those caught out could find themselves on the receiving end of a fine which could compromise their car insurance policies if cover firms view it as an indication of complacency behind the wheel.

Police Constable Ian Leyland commented that the check follows the death of 76-year-old Roy James after his bike collided with a van, as well as complaints from local residents.

"We look forward to organising more of these checks in the future working with our partner agencies to reduce speed and casualties," he said.

Some 3,150 people were killed on roads in the UK over the course of 2006, according to Department for Transport figures.
