25 March 2008 Dorset drivers hit in mobile motorist clampdown
The number of people caught using their mobile phones behind the wheel in Dorset last year has been revealed, a local news source has announced.According to the Dorset Echo, some 450 fixed penalty notices were handed out by local police over the course of 2007.
It added that £60 fines and three-point licence penalties were given to those found breaking the law in such a manner.
Such punishment was introduced by the Department for Transport on February 28th 2007, with those caught out potentially risking their car insurance polices in the process if cover firms view them as a risk and increase prices.
"Our message is very simple - it is not acceptable to pick up the phone while driving," commented Sergeant Nikki Fawkes.
Sergeant Fawkes added that it is best for motorists to pull over if they want to use the devices, or simply wait until they have reaches their destination.
