14 March 2008 Tyre damage angers Basingstoke motorists
Motorists in Basingstoke have voiced their displeasure after road works in the area damaged their tyres, it has been reported.According to the Basingstoke Gazette, people in the region believe that the precautions put down close to resurfacing work were inadequate.
It may be that those whose vehicles were damaged find that they have to claim on their car insurance policies or pay to have repairs made themselves.
A spokesperson for Hampshire County Council commented that bosses had been in receipt of complaints from angry drivers.
"Signage for temporary surface and ramps, etc, had been erected, warning drivers to be careful … The contractor is responsible for making the site safe and open to traffic after each shift," said the representative.
This comes as Newbury Today has stated that motorists in the region will have to deal with road works on Cheap Street for a further four weeks.
Local people had originally been told that the maintenance would last until Easter.
