14 March 2008 Drivers held up by chemical spillage

A chemical spillage saw a Lancashire motorway close. Motorists in Lancashire found their journeys delayed yesterday due to a chemical spillage on a motorway in the region, it has been reported.

According to the Lancashire Evening Post, the M61 between junctions six and eight was shut to commuters after a tanker leaked hydrogen peroxide at approximately 11:00 GMT.

The news source added that the problem was cleared up by firefighters who arrived at the scene and diluted the substance before it could damage the road.

However, the road was closed for nearly four hours, perhaps causing impatient motorists to risk their car insurance policies by acting irrationally to escape the hold-up.

This comes as a poll reported in the same news source found that 87 per cent of people in the region are not happy with the region's road works.

But a further 40 per cent said that they did not remedy the problem by using public transport such as buses.
