13 March 2008 Safety warnings 'ignored by Thames Valley drivers'
Road safety warnings issued by police in Thames Valley have gone ignored by a number of drivers in the area, a local news source has reported.According to the Oxford Mail, there were 106 roadside checks performed by motorists last month, with more than 400 people found committing an offence.
These included using a mobile phone behind the wheel and breaking the speed limit, the publication stated.
People who pick up a conviction may find that they have difficulty gaining a car insurance policy in the future, as some firms could consider them a risk on the road.
"We have a full calendar of similar enforcement operations planned throughout the year, with a view to bringing these irresponsible motorists to justice," said Sergeant Chris Appleby from Thames Valley Policy.
Meanwhile, Thames Valley Police has commented that it may look to prosecute TV personality Jeremy Clarkson after pictures published in the Daily Mirror showed him using a mobile phone while driving.
