13 March 2008 Motorists 'should shop around for servicing'

Servicing can be found cheaper, according to research. Savings of 50 per cent can be made if motorists shop around for a good deal on servicing, it has been claimed.

Research from motor publication What Car? shows a £140 difference between two garages within ten miles of each other servicing a Skoda Fabia.

Such a saving could be very welcome to motorists looking to save money to pay for their car insurance policies and road tax bills.

However, people should always check that they are taking their vehicle to a reputable garage before they hand over the keys, reports What Car? consumer editor Peter Lawson.

He said: "The garage must stick to the letter of the manufacturer's service schedule and use genuine parts or those of an equivalent standard."

This comes after What Car? last month gave BMW its Green Award for the environmentally-friendly steps made by its EfficientDynamics system.
