13 March 2008 Online insurance purchases increased in 2007
The number of motor insurance policies bought over the internet in 2007 increased against the previous year, it has been reported.Figures from comScore show that there was a 37 per cent increase in the activity, with 2.15 million deals taken out online last year, while 1.57 million were bought on the web in 2006.
Interest in taking out an internet deal also increased, with 32 million quote requests made last year compared to 28 million in 2006.
When it comes to looking for car insurance, people are now demanding that they have the freedom to shop around, according to comScore vice president Kevin Levitt.
"The rapid growth of the Internet demonstrates the importance of a multi-channel approach that includes the ability to request quotes, purchase policies and service accounts online," said the official.
Meanwhile, motor expert for The Sun Ken Gibson has stated that those buying new or relatively valuable second-hand cars should take out comprehensive insurance deals.
