07 March 2008 Female car insurance customers 'colour trendsetters'

Blue and silver cars were popular in 2007 The type of colours that are in high demand among car-buyers could be influenced by more female drivers purchasing used cars, according to an industry commentator.

Simon Henstock, UK operations director at British Car Auctions, commented on figures by the organisation that found blue and silver were the most popular vehicles in 2007.

Of the 125,000 cars analysed, 46.7 per cent were either blue or silver.

Mr Henstock suggested female car insurance customers becoming increasingly active in the market could be a reason why these "softer" colours were popular.

He said: "Underlining the growing numbers of women buying used cars, we are also seeing softer colours and finishes such as lilac, mauve and pearlescent becoming more popular."

In an article on car colours, MSN Cars advised opting for a vehicle with metallic or pearlescent finishes as such cars are often easier to sell.

It also warned that dark, solid colours such as blue or black could be more prone to damage and scratching, as their finishes tend to be softer.
