04 March 2008 Parking meters 'making £150,000 per month'

More than £150,000 per month made from Manchester parking meters. Manchester's parking meters collect more £150,000 from drivers every month, it has been reported.

According to figures published by the Manchester Evening News, town hall executives in the city are expecting a total of £1.87 million to be made from the devices over 2007 and 2008.

It may be that motorists who pick up parking convictions have difficulty getting cheap car insurance deals in the future if companies view them to be an unreliable motorist.

And Sean Corker, speaking for the Association of British Drivers, commented to the news source that the sum simply relays an anti-automobile sentiment in the UK.

He said: "This is just part and parcel of the anti-car climate we see at the moment which has been going on for ten years."

This comes as Health Minister Edwina Hart has announced that paying to stay in a hospital car park in Wales is to be scrapped under new plans.
