03 March 2008 Female motorists targeted in Highways Agency campaign

A new campaign from the Highways Agency is looking to make young female drivers more aware of the dangers of the road, it has been reported.

This Is Lancashire states that the body has distributed over 2,000 copies of its Hi motoring magazine across the region through a number of local colleges.

Inside the publication is information for women new to the road and people who have just passed their tests, the news source adds.

And it may be that the magazine helps motorists stay safe on the road and keeps their car insurance policies low in price too.

This is because some firms may charge more to those who have been involved in accidents, as they could be viewed as risky on the road.

"The bright and bold and tongue-in-cheek style of Hi is designed to appeal to women drivers of all ages but younger drivers will find it especially useful," said Highways Agency official Julie Smith.

Department for Transport figures show that 3,150 people were killed on UK roads over the course of 2006.
