03 March 2008 Police issue motor theft warning

Liverpool officers have outlined vehicle crime risk. Officials in Liverpool have warned motorists about the increasing dangers posed to them by opportunistic thieves, it has been reported.

According to the Liverpool Echo website, police have claimed that there has been a huge surge in the number of automobiles broken into over the past fortnight.

The body stated that break-ins have been occurring largely due to drivers leaving valuable items on display.

Satellite navigation systems, credits cards and handbags have all been reported stolen by drivers, the news source added.

And drivers may find that their car insurance policies become compromised should they suffer in this respect, as cover companies may consider them negligent and hike up prices.

Statistics from the Home Office show that there has been a 61 per cent fall in vehicle crime since 1995.

There were close to 1.7 million vehicle-related thefts in the UK over 2006 and 2007, the figures show.
