29 February 2008 Motorists 'want more filling stations'

Drivers 'concerned at lack of petrol points' Drivers in the UK predominantly believe that there should be more petrol stations across Britain, according to new research.

Car supermarket group Motorpoint states that more than half of motorists believe this to be the case, with managing director David Shelton calling it an issue of "concern".

It may be that these drivers are particularly worried about breaking down due to a lack of petrol and getting involved in an accident which could invalidate their car insurance policies.

Mr Sheldon added that the problem was "complex" as it affects motorists driving in both rural and urban areas.

"We know there are some areas of the UK where supply no longer exists at a local level meaning there's a real risk of some drivers running out," said the official.

This comes as the Northampton Chronicle & Echo reports that the cost of fuel in the region is now as much as 112.9p per litre.
