27 February 2008 Bogus instructor crackdown announced by DSA
A crackdown on false driving instructors is to be conducted by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA), it has been announced. The body has issued a reminder that only approved teachers on its official register can legally give lessons for money.
Charles Morton, ADI registrar, commented that "illegal instructors are a danger to the public".
Indeed, it may be that under-qualified teachers are more likely to be involved in accidents, risking their own and other people's car insurance policies.
Mr Morton said: "They have not been assessed by us ... And they will not hold the correct insurance, so will not be covered in the event of an accident."
The official added that instructors will have a valid pink or green driving instruction certificate in their windscreens if they are fully qualified.
Meanwhile, the BBC reports that two test centres in north-west Wales are to be closed.
Holyhead and Colwyn Bay-based learners will have to travel to Bangor or Rhyl to be tested, the news provider adds.
