26 February 2008 Blackspot receives reduced speed limit

Speed limit reduced in Northamptonshire. Motorists in Northamptonshire will have to drive slower by law now the speed limit at an accident blackspot has been reduced, it has been reported.

According to the Northampton Chronicle and Echo, a number of crashes on Harlestone Road near Church Brampton have led officials to drop the restriction from 60mph to 40mph.

It may be that this results in fewer accidents which could in turn reduce the number of car insurance claims made in the area.

Speaking on behalf of Northamptonshire County Council, a representative commented that this comes following a review of the area.

"The casualty reduction team have carried out a thorough assessment on Harlestone Road, near Church Brampton, and will be placing a new speed restriction of 40mph ... within the next financial year," said the source.

Figures from the Department for Transport show that there were 3,150 deaths on roads in the UK over the course of 2006.
