A new DVD from the Highways Agency is to warn motorists of the problems that could befall them when towing caravans, it has been reported.

Publictechnology.net states that the Fit to Tow video, which is to be presented by television personality Carol Smillie, can be picked up by drivers through number of road safety education channels.

Smillie, who appeared on television programmes such as Wheel of Fortune and Holiday, commented that she was "amazed" that 1,400 injuries and 43 deaths occurred on roads in the UK over 2007.

It may also be that such an accident can have an effect on car insurance policies, as firms may choose not to offer cheaper deals to drivers in the future.

"I fully support this initiative and I would advise anyone who tows to follow the simple, practical checks and advice included in the film to ensure you are fit to tow," said the presenter.
