18 February 2008 Tyre safety warning issued

Road users warned over deflated tyres. People riding motorbikes in the UK have been warned to make sure their tyres are up to the job by a road safety organisation.

According to TyreSafe, motorcycle riders could be risking their lives by taking to the road on unsafe wheels.

It may also be that they risk the safety of other vehicle users around them if they do not check for problems such as under-inflation, it added.

Motorists could find that their car insurance policies suffer as a result of the negligence.

The group also stated that this can result in side effects which can have an effect on the environment.

"Incorrect inflation can equally cause the bike to become unstable, affecting handling and cornering, but can also lead to an increase in fuel consumption and emissions," commented the firm.

Meanwhile, Bradford Telegraph & Argus states that officials from the Bradford North Neighbouring Policing Team are to crackdown on nuisance motorbike riders in the area.
