13 February 2008 Congestion charge change leaves some models exempt
Motorists driving one of a number of smaller automobiles may find that they are now free from paying London's congestion charge.New rules introduced by mayor of London Ken Livingstone mean that from October 27th, drivers in vehicles emitting less than 120g of CO2 per km will not have to pay the cost.
This means that motorists behind the wheel of Fiat Bravos, Grande Puntos and the new 500 range are exempt from paying to travel in London.
It may also prove useful for those already paying high road tax and car insurance bills.
Climate change and the effect vehicles have on the environment are issues which have emerged in recent years through events such as Live Earth, a concert staged at various locations around the world last summer.
Elena Bernardelli, marketing director for Fiat Group Automobiles, comments that people in smaller cars will benefit from the move.
She said: "Fiat is determined to lead when it comes to environmentally-friendly motoring ... And these new rules enable our customers to save money as well as feel better about our environment."
