08 February 2008 Parking charge hike in Bootle and Southport
The cost of a pay and display space in Bootle and Southport is set to increase in order to allow the local council to meet their annual budget, it has been reported.According to the Liverpool Daily Post, £65,000 is needed to balance next year's books, with motorists being target to raise the funds.
For example, the publication states that the cost of parking at Bootle Leisure Centre is to go up from £1 to £3.20.
This may prove difficult for people already paying high car insurance and road tax bills.
Councillor Ian Brodie Browne commented that the method of raising funds is the simplest and most effective way of garnering the money.
"For me, the £65,000 package raised the right amount of money relatively painlessly," he said.
This comes as the Daily Post in north Wales reports that parking penalty charges raised £474,420 for 17,157 offences in Denbighshire over 2006 and 2007.
