06 February 2008 Cambridgeshire 'home to most dangerous roads'
Drivers in Cambridgeshire are more likely to be killed in road accidents than anywhere else in England and Wales, a new report shows. The public health report for 2007 from Cambridgeshire Primary Care Trust (PCT) and Cambridgeshire County Council shows that the number of deaths due to traffic collisions in the region is above the UK average, the Cambridge Evening News states.
It may now be that car insurance companies decide to increase the cost of their policies as a result of the figures.
Cambridgeshire's largely rural status has had a significant effect on the findings, according to PCT director of public health Liz Robin.
She said that Fenland has the highest death rates as it is mainly single carriageway A roads.
"People need to understand these types of road are more dangerous and be conscious of that," she added.
Department for Transport statistics show that there were 3,150 people killed on UK roads in 2006.
