05 February 2008 Salisbury drivers hit with increased parking charges
People who travel by car into the centre of Salisbury will be expected to pay more to park from the beginning of April, it has been reported.According to This is Wiltshire, all day charges in the city centre are to go up from £5 to £5.50 once plans are ratified by local officials.
It may be that this is an unwelcome extra for motorists who are already paying high car insurance and road tax bills.
The news source adds that Sunday parking charges will also go up from £1 to £2 per trip.
But officials in the region have decided against plans to increase the cost of parking after 20:00 BST.
Salisbury has a population of close to 45,000 people and is found in the south-west of England.
The area was the inspiration of the song Solsbury Hill from Peter Gabriel, becoming his first solo single when he left Genesis in the mid-1970s.
