05 February 2008 Lancashire drivers fined £3 million in 2007
Road users in Lancashire were charged close to £3 million in fines over the last 12 months, a news source in the county reports. The Lancashire Evening Post states that the number of fines given out in 74 of the 174 authorities in the region increased.
Such a road conviction can have a serious effect on car insurance policy holders, as they may find it difficult to take out a deal for a cheap price in the future.
The news source adds that Lancaster was one of the worst-hit parts on the region, with 13 per cent more fines than in 2006.
But Lancaster council leader Roger Mace states that the travails of innocent drivers are more of an issue for him.
"I am much more concerned about parking fees paid by law-abiding citizens than about the level of fines paid by people who do not obey parking regulations," he said.
Last year, the Department for Transport introduced a new £60 fine for motorists nationwide caught using their mobile phone behind the wheel.
