05 February 2008 Shaming for rogue motorists in North Yorkshire

Rogue drivers will be shopped online. Motorists in North Yorkshire who break the law are to be punished by being shamed on the internet, it has been reported.

According to York Press, people using mobile phones, parking illegally and using illegitimate number plates will be shopped by local drivers on the BetterDrivingPlease.com website.

Some 7,000 motorists have so far been reported to the portal for speeding, with Andrew McGavin, the man behind the site, calling it an additional weapon for road safety.

Indeed, it may be that people alter their behaviour on highways as a result, saving on their car insurance policies too.

"The idea behind the website is that anybody can report bad driving which they see with their own eyes, and can tick a box where they agree to their details being given to police," he said.

Meanwhile, North Yorkshire officials commented that those travelling without car insurance in the region can expect to be cracked down upon, according to the Yorkshire Post.
