04 February 2008 Yorkshire motorists targeted in car insurance crackdown

Yorkshire drivers without insurance can expect to be targeted. Drivers taking to the roads in Yorkshire can expect increased scrutiny from police looking to catch them without a car insurance policy, it has been reported.

The Yorkshire Post comments that there was an increase of close to 100 per cent in the number of vehicles taken off the road be officers over the course of 2007 - 150,000 compared to 78,000 one year earlier.

Superintendent Brian Kelly from Humberside Police called the effect uninsured motorists can have on other drivers "immense".

Indeed, it may be that a perceived increase in activity results in cover firms putting up prices if they consider an area representative of a bigger risk.

"We will use all our powers and available technology to cut down on the numbers of uninsured drivers on the region's roads," he said.

Miles Brignall this week wrote in the Guardian that people looking for new car insurance deals should be sure to look on the internet.
