01 February 2008 Drivers told not to leave sat navs on display

Satellite navigation systems should not be left in view. Motorists in Bromsgrove have been reminded of the dangers of leaving valuable items in vehicles after a spate of thefts in the region, it has been reported.

According to the Bromsgrove Advertiser, satellite navigation (sat nav) systems were taken from cars in Stoke Heath, Fairfield and Rubery last weekend.

In addition to the cost of losing such items, it may be that drivers also risk paying more for their car insurance policies in future.

Similarly, cover companies may increase prices if they feel a motorist is negligent or an area particularly unsafe.

Police in the area have told motorists to take their sat navs with them when they leave their vehicles, the newspaper adds, while further crime prevention advice can be found on the community safety section of the West Mercia Police website.

A similar warning was recently issued to drivers in Peterborough, after a series of break-ins in Crowhurst and Ploverly, the Peterborough Evening Times reports.
