31 January 2008 Inaccurate sat nav 'problematic for motorists'
A number of drivers have been incorrectly instructed to an area of Lancashire which is particularly difficult to navigate, a national news provider reports. The BBC states that the satellite navigation (sat nav) systems are getting it wrong and taking motorists to an inaccessible dirt track on Saddleworth Moor.
People may find that they are more likely to invalidate their car insurance policies in this area of Greater Manchester, which is found in the Penine hills.
It may also be that such a problem makes cover firms reluctant to supply them with a cheap deal, as they may consider drivers a risk.
Tony Nobley from Oldham Council comments that the authorities are looking to solve the difficulties as soon as possible.
He said: "The problems with sat navs are being worked on between local authorities, freight transport and haulage associations and Ordnance Survey to get freight map data on to these systems."
