The amount of money that can be saved by drivers who choose to take an environmentally-friendly approach to motoring has been revealed by a price comparison website.According to uSwitch.com, up to £300 can be pocketed each year by people on their fuel and road tax bills.
In addition, some car insurance companies also offer cheaper car insurance policies to those who go green.
Ashton Berkhauer from the company commented that environmental issues are rapidly developing into a big factor drivers consider when purchasing an automobile, the Evening Standard reports.
"A vehicle's green credentials are fast becoming a major selling point when it comes to buying a new car," said the official.
Environmental issues have been fore fronted in the media partly thanks to the efforts of former US vice president Al Gore.
The politician last summer organised the Live Earth concerts, which were simultaneously held across the planet in order to raise awareness.
