30 January 2008 Cardboard cop to help cut speed

Glasgow drivers reminded of speed issues. Motorists in Glasgow are being reminded to keep their speed within the limit at all times - by a cardboard cut-out of a police officer, it has been reported.

The Glasgow Evening Times states that Chip, named after the US cop show, has been set up on Menteith Avenue by members of Woodhill Residents Group in Bishopbriggs to keep drivers within the law.

It may be that the use of the cardboard officer sees people save money on their car insurance policies, as a conviction on the road can cause cover firms to refrain from offering cheaper deals.

"Chip has a fluorescent vest, so he can be spotted in the distance. He is certainly doing his job as almost every driver slows to take a look," said Donald Macdonald, chairman of the group.

This comes as the Bridlington Free Press states that a similar scarecrow traffic cop has been keeping speeders within the limit in Rudston.
