24 January 2008 Dozy parkers 'not being dealt with'
Council officials in Reading are not dealing with people parking illegally close to a local mosque, it has been claimed.According to the Reading Post, there are only ten spaces at the place of worship, meaning an excess number of cars are parking on double yellow lines near the Donnington Road and Alexandra Road junction.
If police were to issue tickets for the behaviour, it may be that the rogue drivers find that their car insurance policies become compromised as cover firms could view them as a risk on highways.
Neighbourhood watch coordinator for Elmhurst Road and Marlborough Avenue Stephen Cox commented "this has been going on for ten years" and is at its worst on Fridays.
"Council parking attendants should be here every Friday preventing parking on the double yellows and all around the crossroads and on the pavements," he said.
Meanwhile, the East Anglian Daily Times reports that officials in Suffolk are to bring in increased parking charges to make up for cash shortfalls.
