23 January 2008 Drivers 'need to keep eyes peeled after vandalism'
A number of incidents of vandalism in Yate have led to police officials in Avon and Somerset warning drivers to stay alert, it has been reported. The constabulary states that there were six reports of wing mirrors being damaged in Basildon on Saturday, while some vehicles have been scraped using keys.
Such damage could cost people to repair, as it may be that they do not want to claim on their car insurance to have it fixed.
In addition, cover firms could choose to increase prices if they feel an area represents a greater risk to drivers.
Caroline Howard, neighbourhood chief inspector, called the damaged "mindless".
She said: "I would ask those responsible to think about the people who have been affected by this. They won't have the car while it's repaired and may struggle to get to work [and] school."
Vehicle crime statistics from the Home Office show that incidents have fallen by more than 61 per cent since 1995.
