22 January 2008 Nottinghamshire Police release Christmas drink-drive figures

Nottinghamshire Police cracked down on drink-drivers over Christmas. Statistics recorded over the Christmas period by police in Nottinghamshire reveal the extent to which drunk-drivers took to the road.

The constabulary carried out 2,066 tests from December 1st 2007 to January 1st 2008 and arrested 11 per cent for being over the limit.

More roadside tests were carried out compared to last year and there was a slight fall in the number of positive breath assessments in the wake of an accident - 40 in 2007 compared to 45 in 2006.

It may be that car insurance companies in the area see this as an indication that roads in the region are safer and cut prices as a result.

"The figures totally vindicate the vigour of our campaign and justify why we will enforce all year round with further campaigns this summer and in December 2008," commented chief constable Steve Green.

Currently, 0.8mg alcohol per 100ml blood is the UK drink-driving limit.
