21 January 2008 Public asked to 'take responsibility to reduce car crime'

Drivers 'should take more responsibility' Car crime in North Tyneside will continue to go down if motorists take responsibility for keeping their valuables out of sights, it has been claimed.

According to News Guardian, Detective Inspector (DI) Paul Young from North Tyneside Area Command commented that "good quality police work" has seen incidents fall in recent months.

However, he added that this will only continue should motorists make sure they "take responsibility for preventing crime".

Drivers who are targeted by criminals may also find that their car insurance policies go up if cover providers feel their behaviour is negligent.

"Thefts from vehicles can be prevented simply by motorists removing valuables out of sight when they park up," said DI Young.

Meanwhile, Herts 24 reports that officials in the region have begun the Operation Tarantula campaign against car crime.

The news source adds that a high-visibility poster campaign is to begin in order to promote the programme.
