18 January 2008 Speeding motorists 'need to be stopped'

A Lincolnshire village is looking to cut out speeders. Motorists breaking the speed limit through a village in Lincolnshire are worrying residents in the area, it has been reported.

According to the Skegness Standard, people from Ingoldmells have handed in a petition with hundreds of signatures protesting the activity.

However, Lincolnshire Police have commented that the average speed taken in a survey of Hurdman Way and Sea Lane was below the legal limit.

Picking up a speed conviction could prove to be problematic for drivers, as it may be that they suffer increased car insurance policy prices.

Inspector Steve Hill comments that incidents on Sea Lane have not been down to speeding.

He said: "In Sea Lane there has been three slight injury road traffic collisions within the last three years, all within the 20 mph section and again, none of them were due to excessive speed."

Meanwhile, the Reading Chronicle reports that people power in Finchampstead has seen a residential road become a 20 mph zone.

Residents presented a 200-name petition to the local council, which in turn changed the restriction.
