16 January 2008 West Midlands Police crackdown nets 50

West Midlands Police have cracked down on drunk drivers. Authorities in the West Midlands caught 50 drivers over the limit in the region last Christmas, it has been reported.

The Coventry Telegraph states that officials tested close to 400 motorists over the festive period, adding that those who were found over the limit were mostly in their 30s.

Drivers who pick up convictions on the road may find that they also compromise their car insurance policies.

This is because some cover firms could view their actions as indicative of a greater highways risk.

It may also be that they face a fine, criminal record and minimum 12-month ban from the road.

Earlier this week, former Coronation Street actor Chris Gascoyne was convicted for driving while under the influence of alcohol.

The star, 39, was found over the limit by officials in North Wales, returning home after playing Captain Hook in a Llandudno pantomime.
