15 January 2008 Operation Giant sees rogue drivers punished
Police in Lancashire have cracked down on rogue drivers in the area as part of the Operation Giant campaign, it has been reported.According to This Is Lancashire, the three-month operation resulted in more than 80 motorists being stopped each day.
It added that 30 went on to be prosecuted - something which could have a serious effect on their car insurance policies.
This is because some cover firms may refuse to offer cheap deals to those with a history of poor road use.
Offences people were caught out for committing include failing to wear a seatbelt and driving using a handheld mobile phone.
Department for Transport officials brought in increased legislation for those found using such a device last year.
Since February 27th 2007, the new rules mean that motorists caught on the phone can pick up a £60 fine and receive three points on their driving licence.
