14 January 2008 Cemetery shortcut 'disrespectful'
Impatient motorists in Manchester are taking a shortcut through a local cemetery and disturbing mourners, it has been reported.According to the Manchester Evening News, drivers are passing between Barlow Moor Road and Nell Lane without stopping in order to save time.
It may be that motorists heading through the area may be involved in an accident if they collide with people in the graveyard paying their respects.
This could be deemed as risky behaviour by cover firms and so could see them lose out on car insurance policies.
"We're putting speed limit signs up in cemeteries across the city as part of a planned programme of improvements, which includes work to make the cemeteries safe places to visit," commented councillor Norman Lewis, a Liberal Democrat official in the reason.
This comes as Drivesafe - the road safety organisation in Greater Manchester - has told drivers to adopt the motoring attitudes of the 1970s in order to improve traffic conditions.
