10 January 2008 Motorists warned: Stay safe on windy roads

Motorists in Yorkshire may struggle in adverse weather conditions. High winds and strong rain in North Yorkshire this week mean that motorists should take extra care on the roads, it has been claimed.

York Press states that a minibus was taken off the road on Wednesday morning due to strong gales, with two passengers hospitalised after breaking bones.

The accident took place on the A166 at Fridaythorpe close to Garrowby Hill at approximately 05:00 GMT, with local fire crews being called to free people from the wreckage, the publication reports.

A crash caused by such weather could have a serious effect on a car insurance policy, as people may be forced to claim on their deals in order to pay for repairs.

It adds that black ice has appeared on many of the county's roads and may continue in the wake of sub-zero temperatures and continued rain.

Meanwhile, 24dash reports that council bosses in Sheffield are adding a combination of rock salt and molasses in order to grit roads in the region.
