09 January 2008 Scottish storms disrupt drivers

Storms in Scotland have caused problems for drivers. Harsh weather caused problems for motorists in parts of central, western and southern Scotland, it has been reported.

The BBC states that gale force winds as strong as 80 mph and heavy rain uprooted trees and left around 8,000 Argyll homes without power this week.

In addition, five lorries toppled over on the M74 while public transport has also been hit, with train and ferry services out of action.

Those who have car insurance policies in the area may find that they have to claim if their vehicles have been damaged.

It may also be that they face larger cover bills in the future if their providers feel that the area now represents a significant risk.

Meanwhile, the Highways Agency has announced that it will this week begin work on the A303 Manor Farm underpass bridge.

The maintenance operation will start on Saturday January 12th and be finished, weather permitting, on the 25th.
