08 January 2008 Mum wants 'action against foreign drivers'
A grieving mother believes tougher measures should be taken on foreign motorists using UK roads, it has been reported. The Reading Evening Post states that Grace Grant's daughter Sheena was killed in a collision with a Polish driver last month and would like greater action taken against non-UK road users.
Ms Grant said that officials in the area should keep an eye on all foreign people entering Britain and using its roads, it added.
This may also help people keep the cost of their car insurance policies down, as some areas may be more densely populated with foreign people and could be judged as risky by cover firms.
Superintendent Mick Doyle responded that it is not always easy to keep track of non-UK nationals.
"The true extent of foreign driver involvement in collisions in the UK is not known because the vehicles they drive will either be bought in the UK or re-registered here," he said.
Meanwhile, the Times has claimed that there has been a 1,200 per cent increase over three years in the cost of court translation for traffic offences, according to figures from the Press and Journal.
