08 January 2008 Drivers wait for speeding refunds decision

Motorists may be refunded their fines. Motorists who believe they were unfairly given a speeding fine are awaiting a decision which could see them refunded, it has been reported.

According to the Southern Daily Echo, a dozen occurrences will be re-examined by officials this week to see if they have a case.

The motorists think that they should not have been charged for breaking 40 mph on the A27 - a stretch with no legally-enforced limit, it added.

If they claim the charges back, it may be that they can again claim cheaper car insurance policies, as a number of cover firms could choose not to give a reduced deal to those with convictions.

"They are arguing a point of law that if successful, could open the floodgates and allow other motorists to appeal against their fixed penalty notices," said Barry Culshaw, the man representing the drivers.

Meanwhile, boxer Amir Khan has been banned from driving for six weeks after being caught at over 140 mph on the M62.
