08 January 2008 Christmas drink-driving in Norfolk figures revealed

Norfolk Police took on drink-drivers this Christmas. Police in Norfolk have disclosed the extent to which drivers in the county flouted drink-drive laws over Christmas, it has been reported.

According to the Norfolk Eastern Daily Press, officers arrested some 114 people between December 1st and January 1st for failing or refusing to be breathalysed.

This is down on figures from the constabulary from last year, but local Police Constable Michael Edney has commented that officials will not be going easy on those who break the law.

It may be that drivers caught out in such a manner compromise their car insurance policies and find it difficult to take out deals in the future.

"The Christmas campaign may be over but motorists should remember that our enforcement will continue throughout 2008 and not just during December," said PC Edney.

In the UK, the legal alcohol limit is currently 80 milligrammes per 100 millilitres of blood.
