07 January 2008 Fewer drink-drivers caught over Christmas
The number of motorists caught driving while over the legal alcohol limit in Scotland over last year's festive period went down, it has been reported.According to Midlothian Today, there were 839 drivers found inebriated on the road during a four-week initiative against the crime - down by 69 compared to 2006.
It may be that car insurance companies in the region reduce the cost of cover as a result of the figures, as they may consider motorists to be less at risk.
Superintendent Pat Doherty stated that this marks a "great success" and "good news".
He said: "[Drivers] can now go about their business free of the danger presented by almost 400 risk-takers who seem to think it's okay to take chances with other people's safety."
This comes after the BBC reported that 100 of the 657 drink-drivers caught out by police were women.
