04 January 2008 Campaign reduces road deaths

Sussex Police have cut road deaths. A campaign from police in Sussex has resulted in a reduction in the number of road deaths in the region, a national news source reports.

The BBC states that there was a 50 per cent decrease in deaths in December 2007 against 2006, while the number of those injured in collisions had also fallen.

It may be that the cut results in car insurance companies in the area reducing the cost of policies for people in the region as they could view local roads to be safer.

Superintendent Paul Morrison commented that he is "delighted" with the news, the BBC report adds.

"There was a significant reduction in the number of people seriously injured or killed on the roads, which is a force priority," said the official.

Meanwhile, new official road safety figures show that Northern Ireland recorded its lowest number of highways deaths in 60 years over the course of 2007.
